Sour Beer in Bottles

Here’s a couple of bottles with 140 years between them.

The clay bottle is from the 1870s when Leonard Schiffmann was bottling his sour, Berliner-style Weissbier at his brewery on Doty Street. The glass bottle is from Fifth Ward, which recently began packaging its sours in bottles. Fifth Ward becomes the first Oshkosh brewery in more than 100 years to bottle this sort of beer.

For a deeper dive on sour beer in Oshkosh, check out this post covering the older breweries, and this post that explores Fifth Ward’s sour program.
